Q: How are weight capacities of containers rated?
A: The weight capacity of a container is the rated maximum for that containers design to resist failure under load when the load is a fully vertical weight evenly distributed across the entire surface area of the floor of the container in a static storage application. If the contents of the container are not evenly distributed, or if they place significant outward pressure on the sidewalls of the container, the safe load capacity will be diminsihed. Other factors that may reduce the safe load capacity of a container can be, excessive dynamic motion during handling or exposure to temperatures outside of the rated work evelope for the containers design ( typically 20'f to 120'f). If you have any questions about your application or the capacity of the container needed for your uses please contact one of our container experts for help choosing the proper container.
Q: What is the difference between a fixed wall container and a solid wall bulk bin?
A: A fixed wall container is a bulk container that has non-collapsible sidewall. Fixed wall containers my be made in a single mold, or be created by mechanically fastening non-collapsible walls to a seperately molded base. The lack of access doors in fixed wall containers generally lowers their deformation under sidewall pressure. Fixed wall containers may have drain holes or other non-solid areas strategically placed for specific uses throughout the container. Solid wall bulk bins in contrast are molded as a single continuous form. Solid wall bulk bins are designed to be liquid tight and are often avaialble in food grade varieties for applications which require FDA or USDA approved containers. If you have questions about the proper type of container for your application please contact one of our bulk container experts.
